Hi, I’m Mattia. I just wrapped up my first year in college, and I’m only now realizing that I’ve made too many cups of coffee and not enough ground toward the perfect cup. I’m starting this page to seek out some structure in what can often be a make-or-break-your-day kind of ritual.

Preliminaries

What is pour over coffee?

Pour over coffee is a manual brewing method where hot water is poured over coffee grounds in a filter. This technique supposedly allows for more precise control over brewing time and temperature, yielding a flavorful cup of coffee that highlights the beans’ unique tastes.

Why pour over coffee?

With great power comes great responsibility. Being able to tweak the strength and flavor of my coffee is almost anxiety inducing in the sense that if the end product sucks, my day is ruined. However, a good cup can overturn the dreariest of weather and thwart the sorriest of news.

Are there any benefits to pour over?

Ever feel like espresso isn’t strong enough but you’re too lazy to experiment with heavier stimulants?

How can I enhance my coffee-making experience?

You’ve come to the right place – I don’t know! But what I can tell you is that there are many things that work and many things that don’t work. The purpose of (at least some of) these entries is to organize which combination of things can give us a bit of control over our morning (or afternoon or evening or nighttime) coffee.
